Emeritus Prof. Dr. Atilla Ertan, who has contributed to valuable research for many years at the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School, former director of the Houston Digestive Health Institute, and recognized as one of the top 10 gastroenterologists in the world, visited our university. He met with our Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, Vice Chair Ful Akıngüç, and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız, along with the academics from the Faculty of Health Sciences. During the meeting held on Friday, September 12, 2025, the faculty's laboratories were introduced, and information was shared about the ongoing research. The prominent topics discussed within the three departments of the Faculty of Health Sciences included: the role of microbiota in health in the fields of nutrition and dietetics, microbiota in women's health, the benefits of probiotics, kefir, and yogurt, plant-based kefirs made from almond and cashew milk, and the antioxidant effects of aronia berries; studies conducted at the Movement and Analysis Center of the Movement Analysis Application, Evaluation Application and Research Center in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and biofeedback applications; in nursing, the care of stroke patients, the importance of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) care, and training for family caregivers, as well as constipation in women and Kegel exercises. At the end of the meeting, discussions were held on the possibility of organizing seminars and workshops within the faculty, conducting multidisciplinary research, planning social responsibility projects, and developing observer exchange programs through national/international collaborations. |
